Why anti-snap matters
Lock snapping is the reason a great many UPVC and composite doors get opened in under a minute. A standard euro cylinder can be gripped and broken at its weak point, and the door opens. A cylinder rated TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond SS312 is built to sacrifice a section and keep the mechanism locked. If your front door has a euro cylinder and you do not know its rating, it is worth ten minutes of somebody looking at it.
Insurance requirements, checked before you buy
Insurers commonly specify BS3621 on final exit doors and key-operated locks on accessible windows, and a policy can be worded so that a claim depends on it. Bring the wording — or the policy schedule — and the survey tells you what actually satisfies it, rather than selling you the most expensive thing on the shelf.

Common questions
What does BS3621 actually mean?
It is the British Standard for thief-resistant locks, marked with a kitemark on the lock face. Most home insurance policies that specify a lock standard specify this one for final exit doors. It covers resistance to drilling, picking and forcing, and requires a minimum number of levers or key differs.
Is TS007 3-star the same as Sold Secure Diamond?
They are two different schemes that end up in a similar place. TS007 is a star rating covering the cylinder and, in some combinations, the handle; Sold Secure Diamond SS312 rates the cylinder alone to a high anti-snap standard. A 3-star cylinder, or a 1-star cylinder with 2-star security handles, meets the common insurance wording. Either is a substantial upgrade on an unrated cylinder.
Can I keep the same key for all my doors?
Usually yes. Cylinders and mortice locks can be keyed alike so one key opens front, back and side doors, and a master-keyed suite can be set up for a business where different staff need different levels of access.
Do I need to replace the whole lock or just the cylinder?
On a UPVC or composite door, the cylinder is usually the part that needs upgrading and the multipoint mechanism inside the door can stay. On a timber door with a mortice lock, the whole lock case is replaced. A survey tells you which you are dealing with.
